In the US, Thanksgiving is on November 23rd. The origins of the holiday are definitely not what we Americans were taught in school (I encourage you to read here).
As the holiday has evolved, and as the daughter of immigrants, I do appreciate the pause to come together as friends and family to celebrate a secular holiday around a table of delicious food. It’s a holiday many new Americans embrace as a way to unite, and I find that beautiful, especially in these dark times.
And besides the food, what are you wearing to Thanksgiving? Is a popular question and we’re just a few weeks away!
My favorite Tgivs styling is cozy knitwear. So in today’s post we’re talking knit dresses and fair isle sweaters.
My favorite knit dresses
Knit dresses
I love a sweater dress this time of year. They’re the most versatile piece in your wardrobe. Here are a few ways to style and rewear these pieces again and again.
Wear with knee high boots, loafers, or all white sneakers
Wear with an oversized blazer
Wear with layered gold necklaces
The cool girl knit
Understated sexy
3. The striped knit
4. The fluffy sleek dress
5. Hourglass dress in the color of the season
6. Coolest color combo
Fair Isle knits
I love a Fair Isle knit sweater. Fair Isle knits originated in the Shetland Islands in Scotland and is a style of knitting characterized by bands of multicolored geometric patterns.
A true fair isle knit tends to be a little pricer, but that’s because of the hard work it takes to create and execute unique design.
I think this type of sweater is perfect for Tgivs dinner.
How I’d style it:
Pants: corduroy pants, tailored trousers, dark jeans, wide-leg jeans- it all works!
Skirts: leather mini, silk maxi, long denim skirt you already have-it works!
Accessories: gold bold earrings (think chunky or oversized hoops), bright lip color,
Forever sweater
2. Quarter-zip
3. Cool color, cooler sleeves
4. Candy colored dream
I know we have a huge swath of the country who celebrate the holiday in glorious 80 degree weather. As a New Yorker I can’t even fathom it!
If you’re from a palm tree state, what do you wear to Thanksgiving?
See ya next week! -M xo
